I hate technology....

I am not an IT guru, far from it.  As a matter of fact, I hate all this technology but I find it’s a necessary evil.  Instead of painting today I have been working on my website, doing very practical things, again something I am not good at.  For me it is counter intuitive.  I so much more enjoy playing in paint!!  Today I have been hunting and pecking adding copy, spell checking, (thank God for spell check), and making myself “look good on paper” or digitally anyway.  Not sure how all that is turning out but we are diving in.

I hate typing, I’m a bit dyslectic so often letters are reversed, and spacing is wrong so double checking is a must.  I took typing many years ago in high school, failed it.  Truthfully, I was so afraid of my typing teacher that every time she stood near me my hands shook.  Not good for typing. My logic for not learning to type was I didn’t want to be a secretary to anyone, I wanted to run the show.  How has that worked out…?  The thing is I type now all the time, email, bogs, texts, who knew?  I still can’t go very long without looking at my hands but I’m not that slow anymore either.

What does this have to do with being an artist?  I’d like to say not a damn thing but I’d be wrong.  Today people search for you by words not images.  If you can write well people will find you on the web.  There is so much out there to look at, so many websites to visit, and so much art online, how do you stand out?  Seems like everyone paints or has a friend who paints or they paint better than you. You can go around in a spiral. Do your homework, do your research.  Staying in touch with those folks who have bought your work before, marketing….Oh and yeah I hate doing that too.  But, guess what, I do it. Like it or not.
